Referrals are the greatest compliment we can receive. And when the referring parties are the pets themselves, it sends us over the moon!
After losing their Golden Retriever, Partner in 2008, the Watson Family; Jay, Susan, Katherine, Judson, Pumpkin & Pouncer, began searching various rescue organizations for a golden retriever needing a home. They were thrilled to find Hannah in Huntsville, AL and quickly made the trip to pick her up. She was an energetic girl but for this active family, she fit right in!
When Hannah first joined the Watson family, she fancied herself a free roaming spirit and social butterfly. She took every opportunity possible to escape and “check out her new neighborhood”. She invariably came to the original HB office (aka the Owens’ residence) to “say hey” to her dog neighbors. She did this so frequently, that Jay and Sue knew when Hannah would sneak out, she was likely to be found at the Owens’. In those early days, Hannah even spent a few nights and had a “Paw-Jama Party” with her gal pals, Wettie and Layla!
Jay and Susan Watson both native Georgians, were newlyweds and recent graduates, when they were both offered positions with The University of Mississippi, and thus the opportunity to relocate to Oxford. With one fell swoop, their life was off and running!
Their two children Judson and Katherine kept life interesting, and their various pets rounded out the family over the years. When Katherine and Judson, were in elementary school, they adopt a kitty. Having had two canine siblings, they were ready to learn the ways of the felines and found their purrrfect match at the Oxford Humane Society. They chose a precious orange and white calico and named her Pouncer. She loves exploring the garden and can still be found napping in her favorite sunny spot! Pumpkin was a more recent addition. Several years ago he trotted right into the Watson’s home looking for food, water and most importantly a family to love him! Happy with his selection, Pumpkin decided he would indeed adopt the Watson family and took up residence. Just like a cat!
Over the years Pumpkin and Hannah have become the best of friends. According to Susan, they play hide and seek, and wrestle with each other. If Hannah decides to take a time out, Pumpkin antagonizes her by playing with her ears until she is ready for another round!
The Watson’s home has become a little quieter in the past year as both Katherine and Judson have graduated high school and started college. But Hannah, Pouncer and Pumpkin keep the days full for Jay and Sue. You can see Sue and Hannah each evening on their nightly walk. Hannah is still out “saying hey” to the neighbors.
