Drum roll please … October Pet Family of the Month…. the Brocks – Lucius, Martha, Lu, Case and Buddy!
It was love at first sight when Martha and Case met in The Delta when good-looking Case wandered onto a cousin’s farm (this was before they met and married Lucius). Despite his questionable family tree, he was a keeper and was named in honor of the Case tractor dealership owned by Martha’s grandfather.
Martha and Lucius, both Mississippi natives, decided to stay in Oxford to raise their family after business school at Ole Miss gave former Bulldog Lucius some Rebel credentials. Case was content with this arrangement – Mom, Dad and fur-baby-only-child Case. Then Martha gave Lucius a birthday present: a handsome red Golden Retriever named Buddy, officially known as Buddy Bear Brock. Case rolled with the changes and continued to do his own thing. Now he had a new playmate AND a new nickname: ‘The Dea’, as in Case-a-dea (quesadilla). Despite the moniker, it is not known if this boy has a fondness for Mexican food.
Enter baby Lu, family addition #3. This was much different than the arrival of Buddy. Case and Buddy were not kicked to the curb, but they were kicked out of the family bedroom, albeit to some very fine made-in-Mississippi designer doggie beds in another room. That led to a few mysterious incidents. A nice chair might have been given a canine redesign. There could have been some pillow fights with some porch pillows suffering casualties. But right away Buddy stepped in to be Lu’s protector and best ‘buddy’, always by Lu’s side. Despite Buddy’s self-appointed role as Lu’s pal and Case’s little bout of doggie depression at all these family changes, Lu favors the company of Case. Independent Case prefers to be curled up like a cat on top of the grill or the table.
The family is now looking forward to the arrival of a new baby in April. Here at Homeward Bound, we’re pretty sure Case thinks this is just an April Fool’s joke.
