Our June Featured family, Scottye and Aaron Carter-Dewey, have a long history of furr-family members like so many of our clients. Scottye being a loyal supporter of the Oxford Lafayette County Humane Society, OLHS, adopted her first pet, Bub, in 2002 as a sophomore at Ole Miss, and has been active with the organization ever since.
Scottye met Aaron that same year through a relation to her favorite professor. He was Aaron’s dad. Little did she know that he would be her father in law in the near future. In 2005 the couple got married and extended their immediate family with the adoption of Eliza, their orange cat. In 2010, they added Boone, their “big yellow dog” who they found alone as a puppy scrounging for a meal at a dumpster. Boone and Bub were the greatest of friends but not so much Eliza.
In June 2017, the family lost Bub at the age of 15. Although they were totally devastated, the family made the decision to keep their hearts open to a new friend that they met at OLHS. Mollie came into their lives at the close of 2017. She was heaven sent for the family. She was so loving and grateful that she and Boone were almost instantly best friends. Again, Eliza not so much but she tolerates them even though they are her biggest pet peeves. She really only loves Aaron. Mollie on the other hand loves everyone, loves being the center of attention, and is everyone’s sweetheart. Her nickname is “the ambassador.” Boone prefers to nature watch and keep everyone in order, especially the UPS man, the mailman, the neighbors, the garbage truck, birds, squirrels….
Although they have lived other places, they came home to Oxford. So did Scottye’s family. Scottye says, “There are no other towns where you can eat at an excellent, critically acclaimed restaurant, and then go play, seeing a big-name band, or sporting event and still get across town in 10 minutes. It’s the best of all worlds.”
Thanks to the Carter-Dewey family for sharing themselves and their 4 legged kids with us!
