November this month of Thanksgiving and gratitude is the perfect time to tell the tale of how Rex, the beautiful red Golden-doodle, became a member of the Cascio family! Charlie, Stacy, Hayden, Hally Grace, Little Charles and Rex make up the Cascio family and are our November 2015 Pet Family of the Month!
Originally from Jackson, MS, Charlie and Stacy, both Ole Miss sports fans, found they were spending much of their free time visiting Oxford, and thus many hours in the car to attend baseball, basketball and football games. With year round activities and interests in Oxford, it made sense to call Oxford home.
Charlie, an Ole Miss Alum and former track star, laid a solid foundation when eldest daughter, Hayden chose to attend Ole Miss. Charlie and Stacy couldn’t be more proud. She began her college career this fall and is pursuing her undergraduate degree in International Studies and Pre-Med. Their middle child, Hally Grace, is a sophomore at Oxford High School. She is an aspiring model and active pageant participant! Their youngest, Little Charles (a term of endearment that annoys him, but mom says sticks) attends Oxford Middle school and is the musician in the family. He can hammer out a tune on the piano and strum a mean guitar too! And then….. there is Rex. The shining star in all of their hearts!
Little Charlie had his eye on a pup for his 11th birthday, but Dad thought he was still a bit young and should wait until he turned 12. Stacy, knew he could handle it and of course “what mom says, goes”! They settled on an adorable Golden-Doodle in Gadsen, AL and were thrilled to learn he would be ready to join their family upon returning from their family vacation in Cancun this past spring. What a stellar week they had together and to return home to Rex, was the best gift for everyone.
This big boy Rex, dubbed “Sexy Rexy” by Stacy (insert blushing Charlie here), is the son of a 100 lb standard poodle and 65 lb golden-doodle and truly is the best of both breeds. When not stretched out relaxing on his favorite leather seat, Rex enjoys spending his days of summer floating on a raft in the family pool. Rex truly is the life of the party and has actually hosts a few of his own (with a little help from the family of course). From pool parties to spend the night “paw-jama” parties he is a true social butterfly. He is a bit like Velcro and will find a human and stick to them, even if he has to open a few doors himself to do so. He can be stealth and ninja quiet as he quietly opens, the door, peeks through and then pounce!
Rex is a real “mellow guy” so it’s easy to forget he is only 9 months old. But leave him alone for a few minute and you’ll quickly be reminded of his puppy antics. He stands almost 5 feet tall on his back legs so leaving anything tasty on the kitchen table or counters is an invitation for mischief and the loss of your dinner! Leaving a bathroom or closet door open when unattended can result in a variety of surprises to a returning family; toilet paper confetti party, shoes missing various parts and pieces or just a few teeth marks for a new fashion statement!
We are so thankful that Rex and the Cascio’s found each other to complete this fun- loving family and are happy to have them as part of our family too. Thanks again to our November 2015 Pet Family of the Month!
