Life is better in twos, or at least that’s how this family functions best. There is never a dull moment around Indiana and Bridget and their parents filled us in on all the fun. High-school sweethearts, Blake Dubinski and Sarah Pickell are the perfect pair to spotlight for the love-filled month of February. They grew up in Overland Park, KS and made the mutual decision to move to Oxford after graduating high school. As if being huge rebel fans isn’t enough, Blake and Sarah fell in love with the college-town atmosphere and southern hospitality that is the ‘Cultural Mecca of the South’. Blake now teaches in the business school at Ole Miss and Sarah has been a veterinary assistant at Bottletree Animal Hospital (we love, love love!) since its opening four years ago. You can also find Blake’s very own clothing line, GenTeal Apparel, at Landry’s on the Square as well as other retailers along the Southeast.
Blake and Sarah could not dream of leaving their Kansas home without bringing a little piece of it with them. Indiana, part kid-brother and part college-roommate, is the lucky lab that got to embark on the adventure. Speaking of adventure, Indiana was actually named after the fictional-archaeologist, Indiana Jones. Much like the courageous character, Indy is the opposite of fearful and isn’t afraid to get his paws dirty every now and then. However, every hero has a moment of weakness and for Indiana that moment occurred in the comfort of home. To deter Indy from getting on the furniture, his parents placed clear-tape, sticky-side up on the end of the sofa cushions. When they came home from dinner, they found him in a corner, tangled in a web of tape. Needless to say, Indy learned his lesson very quickly.
Bridget is the little sister of the family. She was found abandoned in Tula, MS, and like most similar stories go, this foster pup soon became the forever pup. Miss Bridget is always ready to play. She can sniff out her ball from a mile away or dig a hole to China as long as there is an abundance of ice cubes on the other side. And like most Border Collies, she possesses a seemingly supernatural abundance of energy and stamina. She loves to go for hikes at Whirlpool trails, play fetch in the backyard, and feel the wind in her hair during a breezy car ride. One of her favorite hobbies is waking her brother from a peaceful slumber. Bridget does this by slowly walking past him with her bone, and ever so slightly poking the bone in Indiana’s face. She continues until he gets annoyed enough to chase her around the house. Occasionally, he matches her speed and is able to take the bone. However, Bridget likes to brag that her rate of success is much higher in, not only keeping the bone, but also getting Indy to chase her around the house. What a little rascal!
This adventurous duo loves taking on life together and vacationing to see family in Georgia and Kansas City. These two may have their differences, but they are still as thick as thieves. Indy is there for Bridget when their parents yell at the TV too much during a heated game of football; and Bridget has Indy’s back when it comes to nail trims… because it’s simply never a good time for him. Some may say two dogs means double the trouble, but we think its double the fun!
Happy Valentines Day!
