Originally hailing from Jackson and Clinton Mississippi, the Fedric family: Ches, Beth Ann, Presley and baby Fedric (due in October), have been Oxford residents since 2014. Beth Ann and Presley met Ches while in college at Mississippi State, and Presley immediately approved of him, giving his mom “the go ahead” concerning his future dad. They have all been inseparable ever since. Presley, of course, is named after the king of rock-in-roll himself. His mom has always been a fan of Elvis, and his black shiny coat, and the way his upper lip often gets stuck around his teeth, made it the perfect moniker for this sweet pup.
Would you believe that Presley has another thing in common with his namesake Elvis: a love of bananas and butter! It was accidental kitchen mishap that makes butter one of Presley’s favorite foods, and though it is not a treat his parents often give him, his face still lights up whenever they pull it out of the refrigerator. It could be Presley’s love of butter that led to one of his most infamous food related shenanigans: the Christmas Tree Popcorn Incident of 2014. After sitting sweetly by Beth Ann’s side, patiently watching her make homemade popcorn garlands for their tree, Presley became overjoyed when his Mom got up and briefly left the room. Seizing the opportunity to finally taste all that delicious, buttery, popcorn goodness, Presley couldn’t contain himself any longer. Unfortunately, not only did this pup taste all the scrumptious corn kernels, he also sampled the needle and all the string as well. Needless to say, after a trip to the vet, a surgical procedure, and several stiches the Fedric’s can finally laugh about the incident. They just know not to leave Presley alone around certain foods (and pointy objects).
Presley also has a few quirks that are pretty adorable too. For example, could you imagine having a dog that actually helped you keep your swimming pool clean! This is one of Presley’s favorite hobbies and he can honestly be pretty serious about it. He absolutely hates when leaves fall into the pool and dirty it up. He actually enjoys closely monitoring pool cleanliness by sitting on the sidelines, diligently observing the surface of the water (and the surrounding flora), then enthusiastically letting you know if any pesky vegetation breaches the water’s surface. We don’t know about you, but this is an endearing skill set we would happily pay to implement at our homes.
While we are on the subject of homes, it is worth mentioning that Presley requires sole animal proprietorship of the Fedric household. He is not particularly fond of felines, and all other animals, regardless of their species, must pass through him before entering. One of his proudest accomplishments was saving his Mom from an intrusive garden snake when she was in college. While occupied by other matters, Beth Ann had no idea there was a snake in her kitchen. Luckily Presley was there and immediately sprang into action. He was able to corner the snake and bravely remove it from the house. Though he failed to mention that he was the one who actually brought the snake inside to play with it to begin with, he had no problem soaking up the glory of saving his Mom’s life from such a terrible creature. What a hero! We just know that our brave Presley is going to make the best big brother on the block and we are so happy to have him and his family as our September Pet Family of the Month! Thank you to Ches, Beth Ann, Presley, and baby Fedric!
