THE HIRSBERG FAMILY
Hello flowers, hello sun, hello May Pet Family of the Month; Bryant, Jill, and Charlie Hirsberg! Jill and Bryant met through a mutual friend and tied the knot in Batesville, MS in the fall of 2014. While Bryant and Jill were still dating, Jill was keen to find a Great Dane pup. Bryant wasn’t so sure because he never really had a fur baby of his own, but that all changed when they met baby Charlie for the first time! Charlie girl was born in September of 2012, and the couple brought her home from Woodson Ridge Danes in Oxford when she was a tiny 6 wks old. The couple both agree that Charlie took their relationship to the next level. They bonded and grew deeply connected over her very quickly!
Bryant Hirsberg, born and raised in Clarksdale, MS attended The University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Dentistry, completed his orthodontic residency in Kansas City, and opened his Orthodontic practice which spans from Olive Branch to Clarksdale and Batesville. Jill is from Port Huron, Michigan and grew up near Lake Huron. She works right alongside her husband and enjoys being active and healthy. They have the tennis bug It’s one of their favorite activities to do together.
Charlie was born to a litter of 7 pups. One of those pups, her brother, Merle, was adopted by their close friends the Nichols Family, and Merle remained an ever important part of Charlie’s life. Merle was also a frequent visitor to the Spaw and was cared for often by the Homeward Bound Pet Nanny Team. We lost Merle in April with great heartbreak. He touched so many of our lives, and is greatly missed.
Charlie is definitely a mama’s girl. She follows Jill’s scent around the house, sniff, sniff, sniffing when she leaves. And she welcomes her back with pure love and excitement each time she returns. She is one special, quirky pup. Playful and a big ole sweetheart! She used to sleep with the couple in bed but her size has precluded that luxury for some time now. Isn’t there a double king sized bed available?! She has several of her own big, BIG, cozy beds throughout the house where you can always find her! She prefers soft, fuzzy covers and blankets just like any sweet, spoiled princess would. Charlie’s favorite treats are greenies and oravet chews – of course she has a perfect oral hygiene protocol! Kinda runs in the family. She used to be a bit of an escape artist. She would trot over to Bancorpsouth, close to where Jill lived at the time, to collect some midday Milk Bone snacks from her friend who worked there. Jill would get a message saying “Hey, Charlie is here again, wanting her treats!” She knew exactly where to go, as it was a favorite activity to accompany mom on errands and go through the drive-thru (they have treats!). This was kind of a double rewarding activity since Charlie got both the snack she was craving AND mom came to pick her up. She was gaming a double reward system!
Because of her sky high legs and charming beauty, they say Charlie would definitely be Charlize Theron if she was a celebrity! She is content with a good ear rub, chewing some sticks or playing with tennis balls (just like mom and dad). As a youngster, she was a big fan of her stuffingless squirrel toy. Until she loved it so much, she ate it! Thankfully, she passed it right through! When Jill’s mom first met Charlie it was love at first sight. She jumped right up in her lap. Of course she was well beyond the size of any lap dog definition. The Hirsbergs know that when they are away from Charlie they can count on that same loving care and attention for her Pet Nannies. We are always filled with joy to play and wrap our arms around this big girl who has so much love to give.Of course they take her with them whenever possible. Charlie is the perfect travel companion and has traveled from coast to coast with the couple! She is the consummate beach bum. And who can blame her? The couple has a home in Rosemary Beach, Florida where Charlie spends lots of time playing ball on the beach, and is always mesmerized watching the sunset and ocean waves. It is definitely the family’s happy place, and they hope to live there again in the future. But for now, Oxford is home. The couple loves the simplicity, stillness, and safe environment of the community.Their favorite family past-time is long walks with Charlie and porch swing sitting at the end of the day watching her chasing toads and playing in the yard. What a beautiful life these three share together. Thanks y’all for letting us be part of it!
