We are pleased to present our October Pet Family of the Month: The Meyer Family! The couple met while attending Ole Miss, from which they both graduated, and it’s been sparks every since.
Pam is from Greenville, MS and John from Joliet, IL. They have two children. Jennifer (29) teaches at the Tunica County School district, and Jason (34) lives in Denver, CO where he is a Sous chef. In 2008, John was on the path to retirement, when the family relocated to Oxford where he accepted a position as Regional Manager for Centauri Specialty. Pamela works as a paralegal for Rozier Law Firm. This crew can be spotted on campus for as many Rebel sporting events as they can squeeze into their day, which is why their friends and family call them “Super Fans”.
It would be impossible to speak of the Meyer family without including their trio of furr-boys. With Sammy, Scooter, and Charlie in their lives this family has plenty of personality to go around. Scooter is a white and brown terrier mix and is the baby of the family. He is a big fluff ball, and we are almost certain half of his body weight is due to his luscious mop. Scooter was actually a surprise addition to the family. After the tragic loss of the family’s shih-tzu, Pam vowed she would never get another dog. Then they discovered Scooter’s precious puppy eyes on Facebook. He was looking for his fur-ever family. Not long after, their adoption application was approved and Pam couldn’t believe they were the lucky winners of this fluffy puppy prize. Once they brought him home, Scooter instantly took charge. He knew he had a job to do and that was to protect his family. He took position of perching up on the patio to survey the surroundings- he took neighborhood watch to a whole
new level. Now, two years later, Scooter has developed quite a routine. His favorite time of day is ‘coffee and paper time’; while his coffee cup may consist of caffeine free-water he still likes to take sips and perch on mom’s stool while she reads the paper.
Sammy, the oldest member of the three, is a 10 yr. old rat terrier mix. He likes to play big brother over his two younger siblings, and is the first to run to ma and pops to let them know if anyone isn’t being on their best behavior. Sammy is very equipped to his big brother role, and likes to play supervisor for the family. He can be found cuddling in dad’s lap at coffee and paper time, with a bacon strip in hand. He is a big fan of routine. Sammy looks forward to his morning walk- if you extend his walk or go a different direction, he will alert you immediately that something is not right and lead the way back home. He is definitely no stranger to his rat-terrier genetics.
Charlie is most curious of the boys. When he was just a kitten, he would often show up at the Meyer residence seeking shelter and food. After enough persistence and warm meals, the family couldn’t resist and added little Charlie to their furr-mily. Like most cats, he has a very calm, cool, and collected personality. He gets his feel for adventure by roaming around his neighborhood or sunbathing in the back courtyard. When it’s time to cool down, he comes inside to sit by the sink or washing machine and play in the running water. He loves to snuggle with his mom and dad, but has to use his super-ninja cat skills to sneak past Scooter: who loves to chase and play with him.
The Meyers are a very entertaining group; they love to have fun and aren’t afraid of a little spontaneous excitement or addition to their loving home. A visit to this house not only makes for three very excited pets, but also a very happy and fulfilled pet-nanny. We couldn’t be more proud to feature The Meyer family as our October’s Pet Family of the Month! Hotty Toddy!
