Meagen Rosenthal and her fiancé Todd Mereniuk are transplants from Alberta, Canada formerly known as ‘Cowtown’. Alberta is one of Canada’s three Prairie Provinces, known for its crops and minerals, however, we know it as the home of the Rosenthals! When Todd and Meagen were a year into their relationship, they decided it was time to add a new addition to the family, specifically a dachshund. The two drove out into the country with intentions to possibly meet a few contenders; but the moment Todd picked up baby Beef and felt the force of his little tail wag, they knew they didn’t have any more searching to do. Todd, who is now completing his residency in Virginia, moved from Alberta to New Orleans when he was accepted into Medical school at Tulane University. Meagen and Beef later drove all the way to Oxford, where she became the Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Administration. Talk about a road trip! Having grown up in the country, Meagen loves the country vibe that Oxford provides in all its southern charm and hospitality.
November definitely makes us think of Thanksgiving. Many associate Thanksgiving with turkey and dressing or honey ham but these days we’ve got Beef on our minds! You can’t help but smile when you lay eyes on this confident little man. You can typically find him lying in a sea of soft blankets on the couch, being warmed by the sunbeam. Beef ‘s typical little short dachshund legs are perfect in enabling him to dig, maneuver and bury. He loves to bury his toys (a serious collection, might I add) in one of his several blankets or areas of the rug and then digs them out. This game can occupy him for hours, and it’s so adorable and entertaining to watch. While Beef might be a couch potato, he doesn’t normally pay attention to the TV. Until a few years ago, when Beef watched a commercial from back home where a hippo danced and waddled across the screen to the beat of a catchy tune. Then at one point the hippo will disappear from the screen, and Beef will get really close to the TV and begin to investigate. The funny part is when the hippo actually comes back on the screen from the opposite side, Beef jumps each time it reappears. He just can’t figure out where the hippo goes! This little dachshund has such a personality, and quite a refined palate. Aside from meat and cheese, he loves English cucumbers and portabella mushrooms. He used to prefer the white button mushrooms but that just won’t do anymore.
When Beef isn’t snacking on his veggies or investigating the great Hippo-Mystery, he can be found sniffing out Avent park’s daily activity with his best friend (a.k.a mom). We are so happy these ‘Canucks’ decided to relocate so that we were able to meet our new furry-friend too. Please join us in wishing a Happy Turkey day, or should we say a Happy Beef day to the Rosenthal’s: November’s Pet Family of the Month!
