Even before they were married in 2014, Mark and Cassidy Shoemake already had a lot in common. Both grew up in different places in Mississippi, but loved Oxford and couldn’t wait to embrace it as their new home. Both had always been animal lovers, a trait they inherited honestly, from their parents. Finally, Mark and Cassidy both came into their budding relationship with pups, but now, they are the proud pet parents of three amazing dogs! We should mention that each of these three pups have different, very special personalities. We actually liken them to one of the most beloved television families of all time. Imagine with me, if you will, the Brady girls: Marsha, Jan and Cindy. With those “three very lovely girls” in mind, I would like to introduce you to Timber, Junuh, and Stella.
Timber is definitely the Marsha of the bunch. She is the eldest of the three, the blondest of the gang, and totally has the personality of the older sister. For example, while Stella and Junuh love to sleep in the bed and snuggle with their parents, Timber wouldn’t be caught dead engaging in that sort of behavior! If you need to address her, she can be found under the bed, by herself, being too cool for all that silliness. Timber also passes out her affection only as she sees fit. It is never a mystery when she wants your attention though. She makes that very clear. But don’t get too excited. Once Timber has received the adequate amount of love from you, she may be done with all the lovey-doveyness for a week!
Now Junuh, on the other hand, is so the Jan. When we think about Junuh’s personality we can’t help but smile because she has angst filled teenager written all over her face…literally. Being the middle sister, Junuh has been known to roll her eyes at her sisters and even moan a little bit if they are being especially annoying. If you can catch her doing this, you can almost picture her saying, (instead of Marsha) “Timber, Timber, Timber”. Though she loves Timber and Stella, sometimes she merely tolerates their behavior, specifically when they bug her. Mark and Cassidy report that Junuh is currently involved in a mild identity crisis, but based on how much fun she has playing with her sisters, we suspect that it is all a facade.
Finally we have Stella, little Miss Cindy Brady herself. Stella is the baby of the family and would never pass up the opportunity, to run in the yard, play as hard as possible, and soak up as much attention as anyone can provide. She loves to be seen with her parents, and is never ashamed to ride between them on the console of the car! Stella is adorable, precocious, and as sweet as pie. Mark and Cassidy began fostering Stella, because her life before them was pretty hard. Like a lot of pit bulls, many potential families shied away from her because of her breed’s bad reputation. Stella is constantly changing people’s perceptions and teaching people to never judge a book by its cover. We absolutely love that about her and here at Homeward Bound, we love her sweet family! Please join us in congratulating the Shoemake’s: our October Pet Family of the Month!
