Eric and Cindy Snellgrove were only a rock-throw away from Oxford living in Batesville, MS. With three young kids in tow, they decided to relocate to Oxford not just for our wonderful school system but for the bright and eclectic community for which Oxford is known. Their children (now grown) were certainly positively affected by that decision. Erin (26) is a second grade teacher at Oxford Elementary, Emily (23) currently lives with her husband in Cleveland, and the youngest, Wes is a sophomore at Mississippi State University. Eric still travels to Batesville daily and works for Dunlap tires, and Cindy is a speech pathologist. While this family will always be loyal Rebels, they will also always Hail State. Both Erin and Emily are former students and dancers from MSU!
Eric and Cindy were raised in pet loving homes. Cindy’s first pet was a pup named Sam. Part big brother, part beagle equals a whole lot of fun. Eric grew up with a Sheltie named Laddie but he was hitched to a Cocker Spaniel named Brandy when the Snellgroves first dated. So Eric popped the question and Cindy said yes, it was to both Eric and Brandy!
Their family currently co-habitats with two loving pups; Maggie, an English Springer Spaniel and Kemo, a Silver Labrador Retriever. Maggie was named in honor of a beloved family furr-friend, also a Springer Spaniel, who was her namesake. Maggie is an energetic and happy girl with a zest for life! She loves to play with people of all ages, and has never met a stranger. She is the household beauty with a curly brown Mohawk a top her head, furry white booted feet and a ball in her mouth. A long game of tag in the backyard and a round of belly rubs are among her favorite past times.
Kemo is a big boy at almost 80 lbs and stunningly beautiful. His dark silver color makes him appear as though he is glistening. Labs are known for their retrieving abilities, and Kemo does not disappoint. Once he steps outside, the hunt begins for that perfect stick to present as a gift… or sometimes just to chew on. Big, small or even giant downed tree limbs are all fair game. Sometimes the bigger the better! When he is not out finding new presents he can be found playing with his big sister Maggie. Kemo was named from the tv show The Long Ranger. Kemosabe was a term of endearment used by the fictional American sidekick Tonto, meaning “faithful friend and trusty scout”. His name couldn’t be more fitting!
When these two aren’t racing and chasing each other to their backyard finish line, they love to take rides with Eric in his jeep, knowing the jingle of the leash means it’s time to saddle up “Kemosabe”! Maggie and Kemo’s happiness and gleeful exuberance are infectious. We hope you catch it too and carry that feeling with you and with your pets as we take time to spotlight the Snellgrove Family as our August 2016 Pet Family of the Month.
