The Stollman Family

Congratulations to the Stollman household which include Albert, Maisie, Lincoln, Max and Garbo – our April Pet Family of the Month!

The family relocated to Oxford from Colorado after Jennifer accepted a position with the Winter Institute at the University of Mississippi. Jennifer and room-mate Penny have long provided a haven for their pets.

The most distinguished member of this family, Albert, is a laid back, tuxedo-marked kitty, adopted from a New Mexico shelter after the loss of the home’s two teenage Labradors. Realizing that one big chilled out kitty did not make enough noise to fill the void left by the two beloved retrievers, a visit was made to a somewhat shady pet store to rescue Maisie, a shy chocolate Cockapoo puppy. She was named for a literary character; a young girl that never looked back after experiencing a dysfunctional early life. Maisie, who favors pink, currently reigns as the home’s canine princess, sporting a jeweled collar with a big rhinestone heart and her own Ralph Lauren ‘purse’. Although cat Albert had immediately adopted Maisie as his own, it wasn’t long before Maisie demanded a playmate and after dog-sitting for a friend’s lovable Scottie, the search was on for a Scottie. Determined to rescue, it was months before finding the right fit with Texas cowboy Lincoln, a Wheaton Scottie. Like Maisie, Lincoln has a serious sense of style and has a bow tie to suit every occasion in his large collection. Jennifer’s love of history provided the name for the little dog with the presidential presence.

Thinking a ‘local’ dog might be a perfect addition, Oxford Humane Society resident, Garbo, completed the now full house of pets. She was a sick little girl when they brought her home, too many worms and mites and not enough hair – definitely not a Greta Garbo coif. However, she did have the long lashes and on screen spunk of the actress and the name stuck. Maisie and Lincoln took over and cheered her to good health. Today the pretty little Garbo loves to chase balls and get chased by princess Maisie.

These fashionistas love their outfits … so if you see a canine Eeyore or a four-legged Rod Stewart look alike around Halloween, don’t be surprised (especially if one of them is carrying a Ralph Lauren pink purse).
