The Tann Family
We are excited to announce Beezus and George Tann as our September spotlight this year. These furr-kids are Homeward Bound veterans and quite well known in downtown Oxford. Beezus loves to take a “jaunt” and head straight for the Square, which is essentially and extension of their front yard! The Tanns; Stephanie, Tom and their two human siblings Julia (17) and Harrison (19), are human sponges for love and affection of Beezus and George!
Tom and Stephanie both grew up in Mississippi, Jackson and Natchez respectively with multiple family pets each. About 2 months after they married in 1996, they welcomed their first golden retriever who was essentially their first child! Tom joined the Rayner Eye Clinic in 2004 and the family relocated to Oxford. Their baby passed away the day after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, just one year after the family moved to Oxford. They were heartbroken over their loss, but the transition to Oxford helped ease their pain. It took 5 years for them to bring another dog into their lives. In 2010, they adopted George who was 11 months old. He was very shy at first but quickly warmed up. They fell in love with him and wanted him to have a friend and they wanted another sibling for their children. In December 2012, Santa brought Beezus into their family and their lives changed forever. This duo brings constant love and laughter to all they meet and Beezus has established herself as the “boss lady” of the family.
George is a little neurotic and nervous by nature. Perhaps it was his lack of exposure before being adopted. But his neurosis was a bit entertaining at times. When he was young, he would obsessively jump from twin bed to twin bed in Harrison’s room. The kids found this hilarious! Maturity has changed him and George spends lots of his time these days napping and snoring, very loudly. Beezus on the other hand requires constant attention. She will slap you with her paw if you stop petting her and she is also the biggest leg licker. She does this during her Spaw appointments. You will get “the paw” if you stop brushing, trimming, touching in any way! Both enjoy walking to the Spaw for their appointments and once here they burst through the door, run down the hall and pick out the perfect Zen room for their visit. Beezus has gets a signature cut and of course the both LOVE getting treats at the Spaw and at home! We think Beezus may be taking her “jaunts” to come visit her friends at the Spaw and get a snack. They know exactly where the treats live in both locations. At home, they’ll work as a team to knock the bag down, and tear into it hoping to gobble them all up before getting caught. Needless to say, these pups are quite the pair and make friends with almost anyone they meet; however, when visiting their home, please avoid ringing the doorbell… they won’t love you for that. 😉
